Open Airplane Day
Bring the family out to Open Airplane Day and climb aboard the cockpit of the historic Fairchild C-82 and C-119 Flying Boxcars and PT-26 aircraft. Also tour the museum's 1956 Fairchild C-123 Provider! See exhibits and other museum aircraft built in Hagerstown including:
- 1928 Kreider Reisner
- KR-31 Biplane
- 1943 Fairchild
- PT-19 WWII Trainer
- Fairchild 22 & 24
These aircraft are a testament to the spirit, will and talent of generations in and around Hagerstown and serve as monuments to the men and women who built, flew and maintained these aircraft in defense of our nation in times of war and peace. For most of the 20th century, the building of airplanes played a major role in many families and communities of the Hagerstown area.
Step back in time and experience a memorable flight in the museum's 1943 Fairchild PT-19 Primary Trainer! Thousands of allied pilots earned their wings during WWII in this historic aircraft built by Fairchild Aircraft seventy years ago in Hagerstown, Maryland. By making a $200 donation, you too can experience the thrill of open cockpit flying. The museum plans to have rides available after 9:00 a.m., weather permitting.
The Hagerstown Aviation Museum owns twenty three historic aircraft, fourteen of which were built in Hagerstown.
